early 1990s, Lemmon seemed destined to end his career mainly with cameo roles -- but in 1992, at age 67, he roared back with his critically acclaimed performance in Glengarry Glen Ross, which earned him best actor awards from the Venice Film Festival and the National Board of Review.

Was the only son of John Uhler Lemmon Jr., vice-president of the Doughnut Corp. of America, and Mildred LaRue Lemmon, a part-loving wiseacre who infused a sense of humor into her theatrical-minded son.  
FIRST BREAK: In 1948 in a radio soap opera.  BROADWAY DEBUT: In 1953 in Room Service.  FILM DEBUT: George Cukor's It Should Happen To You, starring Judy Holliday.  STAR TURN: At 29 years old in 1955 in John Ford's Mr. Roberts. The deal was sealed with a spit handshake -- each man spit in his palm and then locked hands.

Jack was Probably best known as Felix Unger to Walter Matthau's Oscar Madison, these guys really were the original odd couple. In a recent interview, Jack said he wanted to be an actor since he was eight years old growing up in an affluent section of Boston. "I did one line in a play and then I just kept going. I really loved it and that's all I ever dreamed of doing." Lemmon lives in Los Angeles with his wife Felicia,
