Bolstered by a firm commitment to be more inclusive, more responsive and more flexible as it heads toward the next millennium, NARM developed this mission statement as part of a year-long Strategic Planning Project that concluded in 1996. NARM has played a major role in the recorded entertainment industry for over 40 years. The trade association currently has more then 1,100 members worldwide. WHO WE ARE... NARM offers company memberships in three categories: General Retailers, Distributors, One Stops, and Rack Jobbers; Associate All suppliers of recorded entertainment software and related products and services; and Affiliate Related non-profit organizations.   NARM members have an opportunity to voice their concerns and to network both within their own industry segment and related groups. Member Sections The General Membership is divided into two Member Sections: Retail Wholesale/Distribution The Associate Membership is divided into two Member Sections: Entertainment Software Suppliers Suppliers of Related Products & Services Each Member Section has a Steering Committee to help identify the specific interests and activities of the Section. Companies may hold memberships in more than one Member Section, but they must operate in, and pay dues for, each Section they join. HOW WE WORK... Board of Directors & Staff The Association's Board includes representatives from the General Membership, and may have from 11 to 15 members. The Board focuses on policy and strategic direction. An Executive Committee, including the officers of the Board and the President (chief executive of a 13-person professional staff), provides operational oversight. Committees & Issue Forums We have five Standing Committees: Convention Loss Prevention Merchandising Operations Scholarship These Committees cover ongoing issues and projects, and address areas of concern that cross Member Sections. Workgroups called Issue Forums are created to address issues with a demonstrated level of interest from the membership, for which a goal and definitive timeline have been articulated, and for which the most logical course of action appears to be under NARM auspices.Topics such as DVD, Latin Music, Packaging, an Industry Campaign, or Small Retail are examples of potential Issue Forums. WHAT IT COSTS... Dues are structured to reflect the growing size and diversity of our industry. Dues do not differ from category to category and are based on a company's United States sales volume. The NARM membership year runs from July 1 to June 30. MEMBER SERVICES... Forum For Networking NARM aggressively focuses on facilitating communication, dialog and understanding among industry members and relevant policy makers. Annual Convention NARM's "one of a kind" event unites all industry segments in discussing key industry opportunities and challenges, obtaining information and education. The Trade Show helps bring new products and services to the marketplace. NARM also prides itself on helping to launch software configurations and technologies, and musical careers for new artists.
