-----Well, it's official -- Tom Cruise is set to star in the "War of the Worlds" remake and shooting will begin in November… and you heard it here first, many, many months ago! Larry and I have not only been covering the progress of this project but we also covered the special 50th Anniversary Gala and screening of the original sci-fi classic that took place at The Vista Theatre on November 25, 2003 -- the exact date that the film originally premiered. The films' stars Gene Barry and Ann Robinson presided over the festivities. With all the renewed interest in the film, Ann has been busy lately with numerous special appearances and screenings all across the country. Ann claims that Larry made so much noise about "War of the Worlds" that that's what got the "Mission Impossible III" film pushed back in order so that Tom Cruise could do the "War of the Worlds" remake first!

Beverly Hills' best kept secret is Sandra Piller and
Larry Flynt's Supper Cabaret Club.
-----
On Wednesday nights you can catch gorgeous actress and dancer Sandra Giles (see PHOTOS) . She used to cruise around Hollywood and Beverly Hills in her pink '57 T-Bird with the pink mink interior, and now the Eternal Starlet, gorgeous, Sandra can be seen at Larry Flynt's Supper Cabaret Club.
-----
Sandra, who was the star of many hit musical films of the 50's and '60's, not only got to party with Sammy Davis Jr. and James Dean, but she also dated Frank Sinatra, Omar Shariff, Michael Caine, Trini Lopez, David Janssen, and Elvis Presley! Yes, Sandra knew how to have a good time and she's still partying! Sandra can also be seen at the Marina City Club in Marina del Rey on Friday, Sept. 3 at 7:00 p.m. &endash; 1:00 a.m. Sandra's party promises to have plenty of dancing and lots of great music.
-----
West & East Coast Swing, along with Salsa, Disco, the Hustle and much more will keep the crowd grooving all night. Complimentary dance lessons will be conducted by Leba. Music will be provided by D.J. Ceasar.
-----
There will be a $15 cover charge. For dinner reservations or more info, contact Sandra at (310) 276-2630.
-----
Sandra Gile's daughter, the beautiful and talented Sandra Piller (see PHOTOS) has also performed at The Marina City Club, and she happens to be one of the most popular singers in Nashville.
-----
Sandra Pillar is an actress, singer, songwriter, producer and CEO of Piller Records. She just released a country music album in July. Her song "Only in My Dreams" was ranked 8 out of 10 with Nashville Songwriters Association International in 2002.
-----
At Larry Flynt's Supper Cabaret you can catch not only Sandra Giles, but live cabaret dance entertainment throughout the evening with Frankie's Gypsy Roses. Beautiful Frankie Anne (see PHOTOS) produces and choreographs the spectacular show which features several gorgeous burlesque dancers, atmosphere and entertainment with class.
-----
Frankie Anne's Gypsy Roses show is the only cabaret floor show featuring performances from Chicago, Moulin Rouge and Cabaret. Every Wednesday night there are also complimentary salsa and swing lessons at 7:00 to 8:00. Over 125 dancers perform on Wednesday evenings along with a Sinatra sound-alike named Vaughn. A good time is had by all.
The 22nd Annual Golden Boot Awards
were a huge hit this year as usual. With all the cowboys and cowgirls arriving in their finest western wear, it's really a sight to see. Honorees this year included Val Kilmer, Scott Glen and Randy Quaid. Presenters included Sidney Poitier, Fess Parker, Morgan Woodward and Keith Carradine.
-----
The very first honoree of the Awards happened to be Larry's long time friend and client, actor Lee Van Cleef. Though Lee was the number#1 bad guy in movies for many years, he didn't care to be interviewed and avoided the limelight as much as possible. It was Larry who persuaded Lee to get out and show his face around town more often.
-----
Larry even managed, despite Lee's obstanance to get him up and out before dawn to do The Rose Bowl Parade. Lee's first introduction into the entertainment business was with a touring company job in "Mr. Roberts". His performance was seen by Stanley Kramer, who cast him as the bad guy in High Noon starring Gary Cooper and Grace Kelly, a role that brought him great recognition despite having no dialogue (Stanley Kramer's daughter by the way, was a featured guest on our "Hollywood Beat" show a few years ago).
For the next decade, Lee Van Cleef played the roles
of several memorable villains, primarily in Westerns but also in crime dramas. In the mid-Sixties Sergio Leone cast him opposite Clint Eastwood in "For a Few Dollars More". Lee then went on to work closely with Eastwood in many popular "Spaghetti Westerns" as a whole new career opened up, and Van Cleef became an international star.
-----
In the Eighties Lee delved into action and martial-arts movies, and thanks in part to Larry's assistance was offered a starring role in "The Master", an NBC TV series featuring almost non-stop martial arts action. During his illustrious career he starred in many films such as "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance", "Tribute to a Bad Man", "How the West was Won", and played the mayor in "Escape From New York" with Kurt Russell.
-----
Lee died of a heart attack in December 1989 the very same day that Larry's other good friend and client actor/stuntman Jock Mahoney also died. Needless to say that was a very, very sad day for Larry, losing two of his best friends only 7 hours apart. It was Jock Mahoney who did most of the stunt work for actors Errol Flynn, John Wayne, Gregory Peck and Gene Autry.
-----
Handsome, Jock also did a stint acting in the "Durango Kid" with Charlie Starrett and as Tarzan in several of the popular Tarzan films. Jock and Charlie were among some of the regular cowboy actors who showed up every year at the Golden Boot Awards. When Lee Van Cleef (see PHOTOS) received the very first Golden Boot Award it was actually Larry who was the one instrumental in getting the job done.
-----

Caruth C. Byrd is one of the Founding Fathers of the Golden Boot Awards. Mr. Byrd (see PHOTOS) is a native of Dallas, Texas. A professional involved in all facets of real estate and development. The Caruth and Byrd families combined were the largest landowners in Dallas. He has been responsible for the formation of numerous successful business ventures in real estate development, financing and film production.
-----
Byrd has been responsible for the production of over 40 films including "Murph the Surf" starring Robert Conrad and Donna Mills, and "Santee" starring Glenn Ford… and also several TV shows, specials, and concerts by Tom Jones, Natalie Cole, Helen Reddy, Eddie Rabbitt, Seals & Crofts, and many others. He also owns a wild animal preserve in Texas.

DIMPLES
And moving right along… Have we told you about "Dimples" in Burbank yet? Since it's opening in 1982 as the very first Karaoke club outside of Japan, Dimples has been reported on in every newspaper in L.A. and news show, and has also been featured on many TV series and movies such as: "Eye on L.A.", "Blind Date", "Two on the Town", and Eddie Murphy's "The Klumps", etc..
-----
Larry, along with lovely actress Regina Sands and Australian cameraman Jon Dorn shot a special segment of "Hollywood Beat" there also. There was even a recent channel 9 special on karaoke which prominently featured only Dimples.
-----
Sal Ferraro, who is the owner of Dimples
is a prominent business man in the area, owning auto dealerships and other successful businesses all around town. It was legendary producer Hal Roach back in the early 80's who first brought a karaoke machine to Sal and told him "This is the hottest thing in Japan". It was the genius of Sal (see
PHOTOS) who knew just what to do with it, and took it from there.
-----
Dimples which is conveniently surrounded by Warner Brothers, NBC, Universal and Disney Studios is the only karaoke nightclub open 7 nights a week, and the first club to present each performer with a free audio tape.
Troy Cory, our e-tviNews editor,
and China Trade Expert, has used Dimples for many years to host his China dignataries, U.S. businessmen, and shoot a few promo spots. (see PHOTOS) Performers on stage not only get to be seen on Dimples own cable TV show which is seen on five different channels, but also get to be seen (and maybe discovered) by the big shots at Warner Brothers across the street, who can watch the shows from a live-action broadcast on a huge screen right outside the bar.

Some of the celebrities that have recently visited Dimples
include Britney Spears, Pink, Kiefer Sutherland, Olivia Newton-John, Sophia Loren, Kurt Russell, Tori Spelling, Kato Kalin, Charlize Theron, Drew Carey, and Larry Leverett (see PHOTOS) &endash; didn't think we would keep him out, did you?
-----
Larry recently caught up with two of Dimples' lovely employees who happen to be very talented young singers and actresses. Larry actually ended up turning the tables on Alexa Bradley (see PHOTOS), who is a popular K.J., by having her do the write-up on herself for his interview with her.
-----
Alexa states that she has been studying Traditional Chinese Medicine for three years, and has almost reached her Master's Degree in the program. She says that she became interested in TCM because of its emphasis on healing the whole person -- body, mind and spirit.
-----
She says she enjoys working at Dimples because she never knows what to expect from one night to the next. She says, "Someone might appear so shy and reserved, but go crazy once they get on stage. Most people love to perform and be the center of attention -- karaoke is the perfect opportunity for that… Dimples is great because it's such an institution -- it's America's first karaoke bar, and people know to go there for a truly unique experience."
-----
Kelli Mandruk, who is from New Jersey tends bar at Dimples. Kelli is also an actress and has appeared in Steven Spielberg's "Minority Report", and "You've Got Mail" featuring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. She has also been featured in the TV series "Felicity", "Beverly Hills 90210", "Wayan Brothers", and "Law and Order". Yes, Larry always manages to have all the pretty girls around him!
-----
…In fact, Larry also has a new "guardian angel" by the name of Sharman. Sharman is a SAG actress and stand-up comedian. With her outgoing personality and special charisma, we plan to have her doing some upcoming "Hollywood Beat" interviews in the near future. And that's a "Hollywood Beat" wrap for now!

----- Some of the western personalities that have passed away since the last Golden Boot Awards were also honored at this years' event. They included Charles Bronson, Jack Elam, Ronald Reagan and Les Tremayne (who also starred in "War of the Worlds"). In the early 1980s, veteran movie sidekick Pat Buttram first conceived the Golden Boot Award as a way to recognize the achievements of cowboy film heroes and heroines, as well as writers, directors, stunt people and character actors who had significant involvement in film and TV westerns.

Proceeds from the Golden Boot Awards benefit the health and human services, retirement and child care programs of the Motion Picture & Television Fund in Woodland Hills, California.
-----
Just because we like him so much we are going to add this quick quote from George Lucas regarding his popular "Star Wars" films (which Donna doesn't like by the way) -- Lucas says, "Popcorn pictures have always ruled. Why do people go see them? Why is the public so stupid? That's not my fault."
-----
Bob Eubanks
Bet you didn't know that it was popular TV host, Bob Eubanks who first brought the Beatles to The Hollywood Bowl back in the '60's. After seeing the Fab Four on the Ed Sullivan show, Bob knew a sure thing when he saw it and promptly mortgaged his house in order to bring the boys to the Bowl.
-----
While in town, the Beatles attended several parties, one was a charity event for the Hemophillia Association, where they ended up spending quality time with the families of Eve Marie Saint, Dean Martin, and Loyd Bridges. Later at another obviously-much-wilder party, Jayne Mansfield playfully fingered Lennon's long hair and asked him "Is it real?" Lennon gazed down at Ms. Manfield's bountiful chest and quipped "Is that real?" We have no report on what exactly happened after that.
