Tony Curtis to be Honored at
Take 1 Nightclub and Italian-Cajun
Restaurant.
Tony
Curtis known throughout the world for such classic
films as, 'Some Like it Hot,' 'Trapeze' 'Sweet
Smell of Success', The Great Race and Othello, The
Black Commando has enjoyed life through the roles
that he has played of which he has been featured in
over 150 roles.
Mr. Curtis will be honored
by the Vegascommunityonline.com, an on line
magazine, which features his column, Tony's 2
Cents. Tony and his wife Jill live in Anthem, which
is located in Henderson. He recently spent some
time with Marleen Marino and her husband Frank, the
creators of
vegascommunityonline.
His
major enjoyment was giving them a tour of his home
and showing them his many paintings. "Art is like
acting, in the sense that it brings out your
passion," said Curtis. That he does ever so
graciously. Born in Manhattan and growing up under
a father who was a tailor and dreamed about being
in show business, Tony Curtis had a wonderful
mentor.
Mr.
Curtis is without question a man of great skill and
versatility in the performing arts. On April 18th
vegascommunityonline will honor Mr. Curtis along
with other political leaders for their
contributions in journalism. Pete Barbutti and
myself will emcee the event which starts at 7:30
PM. For more information call 702-438-1313 or

02 / RICH LITTLE -- A
STRONG VOICE IN
COMEDY
Rich
Little who has been invited to perform at The White
House on numerous occasions impersonates every
President. He has impersonated John F. Kennedy,
Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Ronald
Regan, Bill Clinton, and both
Bushes.
Recently,
Little chatted with me about his Great Scams of
Golf video, a video he produced a few years ago.
"Golf is one of my favorite past times. So one day
while we were on the golf course my friend and I
came up with this idea about putting together some
great scams on
golf.
It
was hilarious and it sold well." Some of Little's
favorite characters are Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger,
Sylvester Stallone, Jack Nicholson, and Clint
Eastwood. "An impression is what you think a person
sounds like. It could be a cartoon, it's your
impression," stated Little.
When asked what his most difficult
impression was, he said Frank Sinatra. "It took me
seven years to perfect Sinatra. It only took me a
few minutes to mimic Dr. Ruth." Little started his
impressions at the age of 12 when he would answer
the teachers back in their
voices.
In
fact, when Rich wanted to get dates, he would find
the girl's favorite movie star and call them up and
ask them out. When he would arrive he would tell
them, "Sorry, Cary (Cary Grant) couldn't make it."
Rich Little will also be honored at the first
annual awards banquet by vegascommunityonline on
April 18th at Take 1
Nightclub.
We've
heard and read a lot of skuttle butt about Downtown
Las Vegas not getting any better. The truth of the
matter is downtown has improved immensely. I won't
bore you with a lot of statistics, but I can assure
you that Mayor Oscar Goodman and the City Council
have no intentions of regressing their visions.
Granted we do have buildings that need to be
refurbished and rented out to business on Fremont
Street.
That
is just around the corner. As far as beautification
of E. Fremont Street is concerned, the money is in
the bank and things will get under way in August. I
have personally walked Fremont Street on many
occasions and seen a lot of un-wanted individuals
stopped by the
police.
Many
of you have told me that you have seen these same
people on the street dealing drugs and promoting
prostitution. The fact is that every city has its
red light district but Fremont East, as it will be
called, and the entertainment district will not
have to deal with that much
longer.
There
are some laws currently on the books that would put
a drug dealer in jail for a year. Of course their
are some extenuating circumstances regarding this
matter.
For
the purposes of Fremont East and the entertainment
district, this will make it more attractive for
folks to come and enjoy the entertainment that
clubs will be offering. Take 1 Nightclub, the first
live entertainment district indorsed by Mayor
Goodman is presenting Latin Dinner shows Mon-Wed
from 6-9PM. They will also have The Fame Game which
will feature audience
participation.
There
is also the "Latin Quarter" featuring Salsa,
Meringue & Punta from 10 PM to Close. On
Thursday's there will be there will be 'The
Underground Crown", Las Vegas's only televised Hip
Hop Open Mike. On Friday they have 'Full Throttle
Fridaze' with Bikers and Babes. Saturday is Rock
Bands and on Sunday is the Rhythm & Rhyme
Showcase, comedy, Poetry, R&B &
Dance.
Hennesy's,
a new Irish bar that just opened across from
Jillians, has live music from time to time. There
is also The Griffin that will be opening shortly on
Fremont East and a 20,000 sq ft nightclub called
The Brass Bar above Hennesy's will be an ultra
style lounge. In any event, the clubs and the
condominium projects are just what will turn a leaf
for downtown Las
Vegas.
TUPAC
SHAKUR NOW AT MADAME
TUSSAUDS
The
rap world's single greatest icon, the late Tupac
(2Pac) Amaru Shakur is now part of the all-star
line up of Madame Tussauds Las Vegas. Like all
Madame Tussauds attractions, the Tupac Eternal
exhibit is interactive. Fans can pose for photos
and also are able to listen to select Tupac music
tracks.
Ms.
Afeni Shakur, Tupac's mother and caretaker of her
son's public image stated, "Our family is all but
speechless by this great honor being granted to my
son by Madame Tussauds. We came from a very humble
background and there was nothing in our lives that
would indicate the Shakur name would ever be
celebrated in show a timeless fashion.
I am extremely proud of my family for taking
part in this ceremony. I think people will also
understand why &endash; at an emotional level- I am
still unable to return to Las Vegas. However, I
will certainly be there with everyone, including my
son- in spirit.
