China Record
Corporation (CRC for short) is a
state-level audio and video publisher,
which is the largest in size, richest in
resources and oldest in China. It is a
group of cultural enterprises managed by
the central authority.
-----CRC,
which has always adhered to the
orientation of "serving socialism and
serving the people," inherited the
splendid tradition of national culture,
boosted artistic and literary creation and
made good use of the advanced equipment of
science and technology. Through the
constantly renewed media carriers of
records, audio and video cassette tapes
and compact discs, CRC has truthfully
recorded and distributed, in hundreds of
millions of units, the works of excellent
music, songs, traditional operas and local
arts, along with those of literature,
film, television drama and dance, and even
scientific and educational programs and
documents. For more than 50 years, CRC has
recorded over 700 artistic troupes and
4,000 performing artists in records, audio
tapes, video tapes and compact discs.
These products, which can be found all
over the country, include about 60,000
titles with the total sale of over one
billion units.
-----In
the past several decades, CRC has
accumulated and collected more than 120
thousand record moulds that have basically
all the excellent and treasured works in
the fields of creation and performance of
music, traditional operas and local arts.
Some of them are the only existing moulds
and have become the nation's treasured
cultural resources and audio and video
archives of high historic value.
-----CRC
has issued three times the "Gold Disc
Prize" to more than one hundred well-known
performing artists and creators and art
organizations that have made outstanding
contributions to China's record industry.
This prize has received warm response from
all walks of life, especially from the
cultural and art circles.
-----CRC
has engaged itself in cultural and
artistic exchanges, both at home and
abroad, and has established good
relationships of cooperation with its
counterparts in more than 30 countries and
regions. CRC was the first audio and video
publishing organization in China to be
accepted by the IFPI (International
Federation of Phonographic Industry), and
the IASA (International Association of
Sound Archives). To make the outstanding
achievement, CRC has relied on a team of
senior and medium level professionals who
are highly responsible and skillful in the
record industry. CRC is now attracting
more energetic and creative personnel into
the endeavor of opening up a new path for
the enterprise so as to realize the grand
aim of strategic development in the new
area.
-----CRC
has set up a state-owned group system of
the parent corporation and its subsidiary
companies with its assets as the link. CRC
is headquartered in Beijing and under its
direct administration are the Beijing
Audio and Video Production Center and
Recording Base, CRC Huaxia Performing
Management Co., Ltd., and Beijing Record
Plant. CRC has the controlling shares of
CRC Music Network, CRC National Chain
Stores Management Co., Ltd., and CRC &
JVC Audio Visual Software Col, Ltd., and
has shares in the Huayun Film & TV
Laser Discs Co., Ltd.
-----CRC
has wholly-owned subsidiary companies in
Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, and Shenzhen
that engage in all the audio and video
publishing functions of editing,
production and sale of programs. In
Shanghai, CRC publishes the magazine,
Audio and Video World, the first of its
kind in China, and has the Shanghai Golden
Disc Advertising Company. In Guangzhou,
CRC owns the Guangzhou Zhongchang Trade
Center.
-----In
the 1960's, CRC formed the unified
management pattern of editing, production
and sale. In the 1980's, CRC built up a
large-scale group of audio and video
enterprises, the first in China's record
industry. At the turn of the 21st century,
CRC has formulated the guiding principle
of "adjusting the structure and promoting
the innovation of the enterprise" by
setting up the strategy of developing CRC
Audio and Video, CRC Media, CRC Science
and Technology, and CRC Properties as the
four domains of CRC. CRC is now marching

as the Paris of the Orient and the
Cultural Capitol of Asia, Shanghai is once

-----Shanghai
is always deemed as a city with strong
jazz spirit, which implicates creativity,
freedom, pleasure and good taste. Being
the most open-minded metropolis in China,
Shanghai has a deep-rooted jazz tradition
since 1930s. Some classical jazz bands
playing at venues like Parliament or Peace
Hotel are even playing and recording
today. During the past decade, the new
generation of jazz musicians and jazz
audiences in Shanghai keeps on growing,
and the taste is more and more
internationally-oriented. As a musical
genre in China, jazz has long broken
through the four-piece tradition and has
diversified into electronica, rock, global
beat and neo-classic. It coincides with
the city image and makes Shanghai one of
the best stages in the world to present
top jazz.
-----THE
1st ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL SHANGHAI JAZZ
FESTIVAL will be launched with the
priority to promote jazz culture in
Shanghai. It involves world famous
jazz musicians as well as top local
artists stylistically ranging from
traditional to fusion. Various
jazz-culture related activities will also
be launched during the festival, covering
the entire city map.

-----Located
at the People's Square, the city's heart,
the Shanghai Grand Theatre occupies an
area of 2.1 hectares, facing the People's
Boulevard in the south, along Huangpi
Beilu in the west, next to the Shanghai
Municipal Building in the East. With its
unique style and beautiful outlook, the
theatre has become a representative
building in Shanghai, whose existence
renders the People's Square virtually the
city's center of politics and culture.
-----With
a total construction area of 62,803 square
meters and a total height of 40 meters,
the Shanghai Grand Theatre has 10 stories,
two for underground, two for lofts and six
on the ground. Designed by Charpentier's
France, the new style architecture
combines the Eastern and Western flavor.
It looks like a crystal palace in the
light at night as the white arc-shaped
roof joins coherently with the
light-sensitive glass curtain wall.
-----The
lobby of Shanghai Grand Theatre is
approximate 2000 square meters with the
white as its main tone, which signifies
elegant and pure. A large chandelier,
formed by six pan-pipes shaped lamp, is
suspended in the lobby. The floor is made
of a rare marble called "Greece Crystal
White". The patterns shaped like pianos,
together with the pillar and the stairs,
are full of rhythms. While being inside,
it's really like staying in a musical
world.
-----At
the theatre, which is made up of three
parts, such programs as the opera, ballet
and symphony can be performed. The
Shanghai Grand Theatre has three theatres.
With 1,800 seats, the lyric theatre is
divided into the auditorium, the
2nd-floor, the 3rd-floor and six
balconies. The drama theatre has 750 seats
and the studio theatre has 300 seats.
-----The
lyric theatre has world-class stage
facilities, which was designed and
fabricated by MITSUBISHI. It is made up of
the main stage, the rear stage, the left
wing and the right wing. All these stages
can be removed, lifted, sloped and
rotated. The lyric theatre also has high
requirement for acoustics construction and
lighting equipment. While the JBL
professional equipment is chosen for the
acoustics system, the top products made by
ADB Company in Belgium is chosen for
lighting system. Controlled by computer,
the stage equipment can satisfy the
requirement of the world-class performing
troupes. In addition to performances, the
Shanghai Grand Theatre has a restaurant
for tourists with an area of 1,600 square
meters and a shopping center for
audio-video products with an area of 2,500
square meters. Also there are VIP room,
cafe, underground garage and equipment
concerned.
-----Since
its opening on August 27, 1998 the
Shanghai Grand Theatre has successfully
staged such shows and evenings as operas,
musicals, ballets, symphonies, chamber
music concerts, spoken drama and the
Chinese operas. It also has a high
reputation both at home and abroad as many
high officials and VIPs, both domestic and
international, gave the highest praises of
the theatre for its perfect combination of
art and architecture after they visited
the theatre. Now it has become an
important window of cultural exchange
between China and the world and a bridge
of artistic communication.
