small TV screen connected to a computer or
inside a tv set -- fits the big picture Quincy
Jones envisions for his continued success in
showing people how he makes a business from
songs that can be seen and heard on a wireless
system and seen on the TV monitor.
-----
Quincy,
like most cultured individuals is using the best
of product placement techniques, ever invented,
to produce -- his music.
-----
"And Why
Not," says publisher/singer/ entertainer Troy
Cory . . . The Quincy Jones Music Publishing
catalogue is home to over 1,600 titles spanning
five decades of music covering numerous musical
genres including Jazz, R&B, Pop,
Rock-n-Roll, Brazilian, Alternative and Hip-Hop.
Over the years, such legendary performers as
Frank Sinatra, Count Basie, Sarah Vaughan, Louis
Jordan, Lesley Gore, Barbra Streisand, Billy
Eckstine and Tony Bennett have recorded our
songs. We remain a presence in today's market by
way of such artists as Michael Jackson,
98°, Tevin Campbell, K-Ci & Jo Jo,
George Benson, Ivan Lins, S.W.V., Vanessa
Williams, Patti Austin, The Manhattan Transfer,
James Ingram, Barry White and Ray Charles. Our
current roster of talent includes lyricists,
composers, musicians, performers and producers.
-
- Check out
our "Songwriters" section and find out who the
major players are.
-
- In addition
to having this select group of current writers,
QJMP also retains controlling interest in the
catalogue of many writers and
artists.
-
- The R&B
music of Portrait continues to attract audiences
in all outlets, including commercials, films,
soundtracks, and extensive radio airplay. Their
top 5 hit "Here We Go Again" still garners
interest from the public and industry
professionals alike.
-
- QJMP also
houses the catalogue of songwriter and performer
Michael Been. Michael reunited with his former
band, The Call, with the release of the album
"To Heaven and Back". Because his music and
lyrics are so distinctly visual, QJMP has
focused placement of his catalogue on television
and in feature films, and we anticipate a demand
for his characteristic sounds far into the
future.
-
- Another
artist continuing to impress the music community
with her style and versatility is QJMP lyricist
Tina Harris. She has had her songs recorded by
such artists as Terence Blanchard, Chaka Kahn,
The Pointer Sisters and Heart, and has songs
featured in the films "School Daze",
"Kalifornia", "Bed of Roses" and "Sugar Hill". A
native of London, Tina spends a great deal of
her time overseas enjoying success with cuts on
several European artists including Freya, Roch
Voisine and Judith Berard.
-
- Singer/Songwriter
Siedah Garrett, whose creative history with
Quincy is long and varied, has a good portion of
her catalogue with QJMP. Garrett's extensive
archives feature the memorable songs "Man In The
Mirror" and "Keep The Faith", both recorded by
Michael Jackson, as well as the inspirational
"Tomorrow (A Better You, A Better Me)" performed
by Tevin Campbell.
-
- Gospel/
R&B lyricist and artist, Juanita Wynn,
helped pave a new road in the often-traveled
world of contemporary gospel music. With
insightful lyrics and trend setting vocal
arrangements, Juanita has helped catapult
artists like Virtue, Fate, Sarah Von Davenport
and Ben Tankard into the limelight. With a vast
catalogue of her songs, we expect to procure
many more covers in the near future.
-
- The
catalogue of R&B producer and writer Marc
Kinchen is one of QJMP's more recent
acquisitions. Well known internationally for his
remixes, Marc concentrates primarily on writing
and producing. He has placements with Chantay
Savage, LV, Trina and Tamara and
S.W.V.
-
- Both our
current artists and catalogue songs enjoy a
strong presence in film and television. Quincy's
composition "Soul Bossa Nova", written in 1962,
still works wonders today as the opening credit
song in the hit movies "Austin Powers:
International Man of Mystery" and "Austin
Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me". We have songs
featured in the critically acclaimed film
"Jackie Brown" directed by Quentin Tarrantino,
as well as "Wag The Dog" directed by Barry
Levinson, and "Criminal Intent" starring the
late Tupac Shakur. QJMP songs can also be heard
in the films "Sprung", "B.A.P.'s", "The Players
Club" and "Bowfinger". We are featured on both
the soundtracks of the "Austin Powers" series,
"Little Vampires", "Center Stage", "To The Max",
"Sprung", "Steel", "Phat Beach", "B.A.P.'s",
"The Players Club" and "Jackie
Brown".
-
- Quincy Jones
Music Publishing has hosted a multitude of
special projects. We recently produced a Hip-Hop
sampler entitled "Phatman". This inventive CD
has brought QJMP's catalogue to the attention of
numerous Hip-Hop artists and record companies.
It features catalogue songs with great grooves
that have been sampled by R. Kelly, Tupac
Shakur, Joe, Da' Brat, Bobby Brown, Uncle Sam,
Mobb Deep, DJ Quik, Jodeci, Mario Winans,
Naughty By Nature and others. QJMP also produced
a premium CD for Tommy Hilfiger Clothiers, with
hits selected from the catalogue as well as a
number of tunes by up-and-coming artists.
-
- We've also
enjoyed numerous placements in television and
radio campaigns; most recently having been
featured in spots for Nike, Blockbuster,
Budweiser, Renault and Simons. Due to this
success, we've produced a compilation of
snippets from over 60 catalogue songs for
advertisers, introducing the original
QJMP-designed cartoon character Cleo the
AdMan.
-
- As is
evidenced above, Quincy Jones Music Publishing
retains its legacy as one of the most
time-honored catalogues in music history. Our
foremost objective is to continue making our
mark on the music of today, while pushing forth
with the imaginations and the sounds of
tomorrow.
