Chuck Norris known for his
role in Walker on Texas Ranger has completed 232
episodes of the action packed family entertainment
show. Through Walker, martial arts became very
popular in America influencing the rise of marital
arts schools.
Of course, Chuck Norris got
is first notoriety in his first staring role, 'Good
Guys where Black' in fact, he was the only
individual who ever beat Bruce Lee in world
competition. But Norris, since the beginning of his
career had a vision of starting a martial arts
combat team but put that on hold when he first
started his film career.
Now after thirty years he's
introduced The World Combat League, a league of
team fighters that will compete throughout the
country to determine, 'The Nations Toughest City'.
"Most of my friends are martial artist. I wanted to
create something that would enable them to make a
living. I also created this league so that I could
raise money to help kids at risk through my Kick
Start Foundation."
Currently Norris has helped
over forty thousand at risk kids, which have
graduated through his foundation. "Kids need
discipline, but also need to be inspired to make a
better way for themselves. Martial arts have given
these kids self confidence to be anything that they
want to be in life." Eventually Norris hopes to go
worldwide with this
foundation.
Last year in October, the
World Combat League began its competetion in
Dallas, Texas at the Dallas Convention Center.
There were over six thousand martial arts fans at
that opening. In January 2006 at the Mohegan Sun
Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut there was another
exciting match between New York taking on New
England and Philadelphia taking on Miami.
Then on March 3 at the
Orleans Arena the Denver Destroyers took on The
Dallas Dragons winning 125 to the Dragons 116. The
second team, The Las Vegas Gators lost to the Las
Angeles Stars by one point. In any event, The World
Combat League will expand to twenty-four cities in
North America then internationally to sixteen teams
in Europe and sixteen teams in Asia.
This is certainly a most
exciting time for marital arts and according to
Chuck Norris, super starts will be made, lines will
be changed, and stories of heroism and passion will
be played
out.

LOCAL TELEVISION SHOWS POPULAR FOR
VEGAS
From an entertainment perspective, shows
such as Entertainment Las Vegas Style seems to be
quite popular in our city. Tony Sacca, the host and
producer of ELV has been on the air for eighteen
years. However, there are more contemporary shows
that are needed for a younger audience. Currently
there is a show entitled Audacity Entertainment
which airs weekly at midnight on UPN cable 14.
Although there has been much talk about
Gangsta
Rap being removed from Las Vegas, stated by
Sheriff Bill Young, legally that's not going to be
possible. Audacity Entertainment brings to the TV
audience the cultural of hip-hop. Yes, that is
true. Hip Hop is a cultural and like anything there
is good and bad lyrics in some of these poetic
songs. Nevertheless, Audacity's show features
music, dance, fashion, all of which are part of the
hip-hop scene today. In talking with Anthony
Gonzales, the executive producer of the show, he
stated, "I believe this platform for personal
opinion which we call, rap/hip-hop/gansta rap the
social economic and strife in the world of these
artist would never be heard. Gonzales added," their
voices and opinions would not be heard. Like fine
poetry and art, we would not be privy to the
glimpse of their world. If I am not correct, isn't
that how social problems begin between classes and
races when one party refuses to acknowledge the
other and there achievements, talents, and
beauty?"
There is also another show entitled On The
Road, which features interviews of bands backstage.
It is shot on location and airs on Friday on Fox 5.
On the Road features music of all kinds from groups
to individuals. This show has also gotten excellent
ratings. As long these entertainment shows provide
entertainment in a positive way and not influencing
our children in a negative way through the lyrics
of the music, then what more could we ask
for?

COURVOISIER AND AL PACINO'S BROTHER VISIT
YASSOU CAFE
Yassou Cafe, located in the Aege Plaza on
Charleston, just west of Buffalo is a great setting
for Greek cuisine, especially to view the mountain
on their patio. It is quite the place for
celebrities, especially for TV anchorman, Dave
Courvoiser and Al Pacino's brother. Yassou is owned
by Peter Papas and his family. I had a chance to
partake of their food, which included beef and lamb
Gyros, herb chicken, the Olympic veggie pita
sandwich and a selection of salads and vegetarian
plates. I would highly recommend their signature
dishes, which would include Pastitsio-baked stuffed
macaroni with chopped meat and cheese in a white
creamy sauce and their lemon chicken soup. By the
way, the Apepa family, of which Peter Papas in on
their board, is celebrating their Greek
Independence Gala at St. John's Church on Jones and
Hacienda. Scholarships will be given out and
authentic Greek dinners will be served. Call
798-8989 for tickets.
Until then, keep your visions positive and
keep positive people around you, and above all know
that God is there for you
