members at international broadcasting,

membership views on international
questions affecting broadcasting on policy,
operational and technical matters, operation of
satellite systems, satellite tariff for satellite
news gathering, and encourages timely decisions on
broadcast issues, technical standards and on
matters affecting intellectual property.
Monitors and
speaks out on proposed legislation,
regulations, or other actions restricting media
freedom and the safety of journalists.

Broadcasting Unions (WBU) &emdash; Asia-Pacific
Broadcasting Union (ABU), Arab States Broadcasting
Union (ASBU), International Association of
Broadcasting, Uruguay (IAB), Caribbean Broadcasting
Union (CBU), European Broadcasting Union (EBU),
Organización de la Televisión
Iberoamericana (OTI), and the Union des
radiodiffusions et télévisions
nationales d'Afrique (URTNA), to provide collective
representation within international and regional
bodies on world telecommunications issues affecting
broadcasting.
Takes a
leadership role in the WBU by hosting its
Secretariat, chairing the Inter-Union Satellite
Operations Group (ISOG), and chairing the
Inter-Union Digital Audio Broadcasting
Group.
Maintains
liaison with international bodies like the European
Commission, UNESCO, the International
Telecommunications Union and others, actively
participates in the World Intellectual Property
Organization (WIPO) on discussions of intellectual
property, and produces commentary and position
papers on North American and international
broadcasting operational questions.
