NAPTE, National Association
of Television Program Executives, held their annual
convention at Mandalay Bay last week. One of the
highlights of the event was Emmy Award winning
producer, Steven Bochco receiving the Legacy Award.
Named after the late TV executive Brandon
Tartikoff, one of the medium's respected
programmers, The Brandon Tartikoff Legacy Awards
were created to recognize TV professionals who
exhibit passion, leadership, independence and
vision in the process of creating television
programming. Steven Bochco had produced a number of
hit series and has the reputation for taking risk
in bringing innovative programs to the small
screen.

A colleague, as well as a close personal
friend of Tartikoff's, Bochco says, "Being named as
a recipient of The Brandon Tartikoff Legacy Award
isn't so much a professional recognition as it is a
personal and emotional one. Our business has
changed so much in the years since he has been gone
that those of us who knew him and worked with him
value him even more today then we did then." Steven
Bochco celebrated hits include, 'Desperate
Housewives' along with 'Doogie Howser', M.D., which
he co-created. He was also known for the innovative
musical drama, 'Cop Rock', as well as multiple
awards winning N.Y.P.D. Blue.

The majority of people in the industry
remember Bochco's programming with
'Hill Street Blues'
and L.A. Law that helped Tartikoff turn the NBC
network into a powerhouse in the 80s. In making new
challenges, he continues to push television's
creative boundaries. Bochco developed 'OVER THERE',
a hard edge military themed series set around the
US invasion and occupation of Iraq in July 2005 for
the FX network. Currently he has a contract with
Touchstone Television developing and executive
producing a number of projects that include,
'Commander In Chief', the companies new highly
rated drama series staring Geena Davis as the first
female President of the United
States.

since its launch in 2004, DVIDS has increased its
ability to provide media with rapid and easy access
to military fighting the War on Terrorism. DVIDS
(Digital Video Imagery Distribution System) has
more then fifty satellite teams operating in Iraq,
Afghanistan, Kuwait, Quatar, Bahrain, and the
continental United States. This network of portable
satellite transmitters are connected to a
distribution in Atlanta, Georgia. This system
enables media organizations to request products,
conduct broadcast quality interviews, and to
receive images, video footage and print story from
the DVIDS distribution hub, which allows access to
service members deployed in Operations Iraqi and
Enduring Freedom.
